Special Education

The Dulce Independent School District serves students with disabilities ranging in ages from 3 to 21. Our Special Education Department provides free, appropriate services to students who are identified as having an educational disability according to eligibility criteria set forth by Part B of the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and the New Mexico Public Education Department. Our district goal is to provide essential support for success while meeting the identified academic and functional requirements of each student with an Individual Education Program (IEP). Each student’s placement is based on the student’s individual needs.

Services for students are determined by the IEP Team, including parents. Parents are critical members of a child’s educational team.  IEPs for Middle School and High School students are increasingly designed to prepare students for life beyond high school. Students in grades 7 through 12 are also highly encouraged to participate in their own IEP meetings.
