Local Activities
Dulce and the Jicarilla Apache Reservation offer a wide variety of outdoor activities for all kinds of enthusiasts. Hiking and walking trails are plentiful. During appropriate seasons, hunting, fishing and camping are also available.
If you are considering a visit to Dulce, please keep in mind that the 850,000 acres of land that make up the Jicarilla Apache Reservation are home to the Jicarilla Apache Tribe. The tribe has an established Game and Fish organization meant to serve as an interface between the beautiful reservation landscape and its visitors. All hunting and fishing is planned through the Jicarilla Game and Fish and small camping fees are present as well.
Hunting & Fishing
The Jicarilla Apache Reservation is best known for its Trophy Mule Deer hunting. Bull elk hunts, mountain lion, black bear and turkey hunts are also available. Hunting licenses are granted first by drawing and 2007 information is currently availalbe through the Game and Fish organization. Fishing has been affected by drought conditions; however, it is still available in the area’s plentiful lakes.
Camping
Stone Lake and Mundo Lake offer some of the best camping areas on the reservation. Stone Lake offers RV locations and views of the lake and mesa. Mundo Lake offers covered shelters, picnic tables and tent sites. RVs are welcome, but there are no hook-ups available.
